Why I built this

Like most people, I don't have much time left over. Two jobs, children, a diary that's already full before the week begins. Time for the things that really matter is scarce — and that also applied to visiting a good friend.

At some point I realized it had been months since I'd been to his final resting place. Not because I didn't want to, but because life kept getting in between. That didn't feel right. I started looking for a way to still be close more often, even when I couldn't be there myself.

What I miss most is his humor, the way he entered a room and effortlessly drew everyone around him, simply by who he was. That presence is an emptiness that nothing else fills.

After his death I noticed how scattered everything remained: photos on dozens of phones, messages in old group chats, stories that only existed in someone's head and were never written down anywhere. No place to bring it together. No place to return to.

So I built that place.

A Place to Return.to doesn't exist because I wanted to start a company. It exists because I lost a friend, and because I wanted something to remain — something quiet, something lasting — where his story, and the stories of others like him, could find a home.

That is the only reason this site exists.
